Shrimp is something I totally enjoy, but my wife doesn’t, so I don’t have them often enough. I was very lucky on our weekly shopping trip to find 16-20 count shrimp on sale for a great price. Sad part was it was a limit of 2 packages, if covid 19 wasn’t around I would of made multiple trips to the store buying more than 2. They may be frozen but I learned a trick, from a chinese chef, on how to make them taste great. The pan fried shrimp he made I thought was fresh shrimp, but when I asked they were frozen ones. I have been doing it with frozen shrimp since then. It seems a little strange but it works extremely well and isn’t hard to do. My treat shrimp are quick to make and for myself taste great.
1 bag of 16-20 count shrimp peeled and deveined ( sprinkle 2 teaspoons of salt on the shrimp and mix well. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour then rinse well under cold water. Dry well with paper towel then use. )
1 and 1/2 tablespoons butter
5 cloves garlic minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat a frying pan on medium high heat with the butter. When the butter starts to brown, salt and pepper the shrimp, add the shrimp in one layer. Sprinkle the shrimp with the red pepper flakes. Mix the lemon juice and soy sauce together, cook shrimp for about 90 second. Sprinkle the garlic around the pan and turn the shrimp over. Cook for 1 minute and add the lemon soy mixture. Cook for 30 seconds, toss the shrimp to coat and serve.
I love shrimp and haven’t had any in about 3 mos. I try to buy them raw but frozen shrimp has never disappointed me.
The salt trick works well, makes the texture more like fresh.
Nice trick! Lemon and soy sauce makes it tangy.
