My Brother Made Steak And Kidney Pudding

Got a call from my brother in High River Alberta this morning he wanted to know when the last time I made steak and kidney pudding was. He has our mothers recipe and was able to find everything to make it. He was missing the same part of the recipe I was the first time I made it. I asked him if he had the missing part and he didn’t so I told him what it was. Put the cut up kidney in cold salted water and bring to a boil for 10 minutes, drain and repeat 3 times. He asked the same thing I asked our mothers, why? Told him exactly what our mother told me, it’s to boil the piss out of it. It did get a laugh out of him and a, I’ll remember that next time. Depending on how well he washed and soaked them in water he might be ok, otherwise it might be a little funky. Even if you just going to have fried kidneys you need to follow that step. Told him he should of looked on my blog, but he had mom’s recipe so why would he. It was too late for him to do it since it was already in the pot boiling. Will have to talk to him tomorrow and find out how it turned out.

  1. Funny story! Kidney is one of the parts I don’t really like, even after removing the piss out… Something to do with the texture.
