The Responsible Thing

Our covid 19 scare is over for now, but our concern over covid 19 isn’t over. I know covid 19 isn’t going to win but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to do the responsible thing. Over the last week I have done a lot of thinking about my responsibilities to my family. They are what is important, putting a recipe on my site isn’t. That comment requires an explanation about the recipes I post.

I love to cook, think people that have been on my site can see that. Given covid 19, the way I cook is a problem. My crazy mind tells me these things will work and make a very good meal. So I just run to the store and buy what I need and make it, then post it. I also do the same thing when I remember a recipe I have parked for years. It’s fun for me to do those things and to post those recipes. Thing is running to the store every day is a very irresponsible thing for me to be doing, so that isn’t going to happen anymore. Will buy things once a week and use canned and frozen vegetables and other products. We will only go out when it’s absolutely necessary and we will follow social distancing when we do. That, I think, is the responsible thing for myself and everyone on the planet to do.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be posting, it means there won’t be recipes everyday. There’s still might be recipes that turn out great with frozen and canned products. If they do, those I will post. The bad part is I may preach a little or maybe a lot also, my family would tell you I like doing that. Memory shows me I use to cook with the products I will be using. Guess I am going to see if I am as creative a cook as I think I am.

  1. You’re on the right track, Graham. You don’t need to go to the store every day. You’ve probably got tons of great stuff at the house, just waiting to be used in a creative way. I’m going out for a beer run now…I’ll pick up a 6 pack of Labatt for you. 🙂

Your recipes using storecupboard basics may be very useful to large numbers all enganging in social distancing or, like us, in lockdown.

    • Yes your in France, it must be a hard time there. I been keeping an eye on what’s going on in the countries of the people following my blog. France is having a very hard time right now. Prayers are with you, be safe.

Thanks Graham but don’t believe everything you read. We’re being sensible. Macron is showing real leadership, the French government is underwriting everything so people will still get paid, won’t get evicted, their businesses won’t go bust. We’ll all be fine. Plus, we all have access to one of the best health services in the world. There’s nowhere I’d rather be.

      • Good to hear, same here government is doing a good job. Our province, Manitoba, has done a great job so far. They started testing seniors homes well ahead of everyone else. They have tested everyone who travelled out of the country. Now it’s people that have travelled within Canada. No new cases in the 700 test results provided today. All 17 positive people are travel related and all the people they were in contact with have been tested. People in the province have been very responsible so hopefully it continues.

Sounds as if Canada, and your province, are doing a great job.
